Desires: From Dreams to Reality

Write the vision; make it plain

Childhood dreams are powerful.  They are memories that drive us and linger in many of our adult experiences.  Some dreams we filter out as we mature, usually because  reality crowds in and makes us doubt our original heartfelt desires.  As adults we may not have the same passions as we did when we were 4 years old, because we have experienced so much of the world, but it is important to return to our original state of 'dreaming' with pure intention.

Dreaming is a state that allows opportunity, possibility, and our uniqueness to shape our thinking.  In the exercise of Dreaming we need to make sure negative thoughts, anxiety and pessimism are left far behind so that our imagination, creativity and personal voice can shine through.

Dreams to Vision: 3 Stages:

1.)  Creating Dreams:  We need to know ourselves at such a level that we can define what we love: experiences, places, people, activities, tasks, themes, choices.

*Create a Dream Board:  Collect pictures, notes, sayings, photos, colours you love and pin them to your dream board.  You can also use a book to document your favourite things.  Collate these items to your most favourite and define your 10 most desired experiences based on your dream board choices.

2.)  Concrete Dreams:  Dreams can just be wishful thinking unless we make them into   a formal goal.

*Research:  Taking our dream (experience, place, person or desired item) and making it something we truly experience we need to define in the 'now'.  Dreaming about lying on a golden beach will mean you need to find out about holidays in a sunny holiday spot.  You will need to define the details - place, cost and  resources.  Dreaming about becoming a chef you will need to find a local cooking school and define the details - location, fees and course description.

3.)  Making Goals:  When dreams become goals they become real.  There will be many steps to achieving your dream; there will be many twists in the road and decisions to make.  A plan to achieve a goal will help you to action steps needed to keep you energised, focused, and fulfil your dream.

*Action Plan:   By breaking the desired goal into smaller, measurable steps and then prioritising them from first to last, psychologically your mountain has suddenly become a 'ladder' with rungs that are easily ascended.  If the tasks a too hard, or too big, the rungs on the ladder are too far apart and you won't be able to move forward.  An easy solution is to divide the task into two separate parts, or ask for support or help.  This will mean a large step becomes two smaller ones.  It is useful to remember that time is not always the focus, but achievability.

Early dreams can become emblazoned in our memories, but if they become concrete, they can move us along our journey in such a way that our feet don't even touch the ground and life becomes a life well lived.
