Creativity is the Way I Share My Soul With The World - Brene Brown
We are Creative Beings: Everyone has the ability to be create. Even people who declare, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body”, are blissfully unaware at the way their amazing brain ‘creates’ meaning every day. We are born to create. We learn through scaffolding ideas and creating processes that create an outcome. Often when we study something new, our brain primes our learning with an imaginary ‘rehearsal’ of what we are about to do.
The Power of Imagination: If you observe children playing they experiment with their language, body, resources and ideas to create a narrative or story. Imagination is about connecting ideas and offering them no matter what they represent. Imagination is the process by which we scaffold and link together colours, shapes, objects, characters, plot lines, technologies and facts etc. in our mind, before we set about doing it in real life. A creative state allows for every playful abstract idea to be just as relevant as every linear idea.
SPOKE INSIGHT: “HOW CAN I BE POWERED BY MY IMAGINATION AND EXPERIMENT THROUGH PLAY?”
Priming with Imagination: Have you ever found yourself driving to a weekend tennis match and ‘thinking’ about yourself on the court, hitting the ball. You are imagining yourself playing before you’ve even picked up a tennis racket. Priming is key for high performance success. You can prime or imagine any activity, before you do it, to increase your possibility of success.
SPOKE INSIGHT: “I CAN REHEARSE USING MY IMAGINATION, TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME.”
Removing Limits and Judgement: Creative people thrive in a space where mistakes are considered ideas and there are ‘no set rules’. When you adhere to rules or procedures you are moving towards a prescribed outcome. By getting rid of the rules you can remove the precondition expectations and allow the freedom of expression through any medium (drawing, painting, music etc.) Creative people are ‘open’ and ‘aware’ of other people; they allow another person’s point of view to fuel the creative space with a non-judgmental attitude. When a creative space encourages freedom and the manifestation of innovative ideas, a new creation can be birthed.
SPOKE INSIGHT: “I BELIEVE THAT MISTAKES ARE A BRIDGE TO THE NEXT IDEA.”
